Adrienne and I met back in 1978 while I was working as a dock boy in Stratford CT and she was living on a boat. We formed our mutual love of boating while sailing her stepfather's 1929 Alden schooner and water skiing on the Housatonic river on my 17' Boston Whaler. In the early 1980's we traveled between Connecticut and Florida while working as Captain and First Mate on a 41' Chris Craft and then 53' Hatteras.
We always dreamed of cruising on our own boat at own own speed, but then life happened and we decided to get real jobs and have children.
We had three beautiful children and unfortunately we lost our son Christopher at the age of 21. It was a very difficult time but we got through it with the help of family and great friends. Our two daughters have built lives of their own and we are now able to revisit our dreams. We sold our house, bought a condo and began our search for a boat. We were lucky to find a well maintained 2004 430 Mainship (Thanks Lance!) which met all our requirements and hopes for a perfect boat.
Now what to name her? I consider myself something of a boat name snob, a name should be somewhat witty and tell a story about the owners. Not an easy feat, but I feel it is important. Early on we had a favorite name we had seen on the waterway. There was an older couple meandering along in a double ended trawler with the name "MeAndHer". That was our go to, until I was sitting in a bar on a trip south on my brothers boat with a good friend that suggested a classic New England name such as "Chris P" (Thanks Ray!). We hashed it around and decided on "Christopher P".
So here we are, preparing to live our dream and travel on the Christopher P at our our pace without a schedule.
Hopefully I didn't bore you with our history and you will check back here to see how we are doing.
Thank you!
Capt. Bill and Adrienne Palmer
